Mars Hill Academy, in Mason, Ohio, has apparently expelled a student after she made a post on her Facebook account venting about her senior year experience.
No names are mentioned, and her tone seems to be that of general fatigue with the rigors of high school - senior-itis, if you will. As far as Facebook and Myspace rants go, it’s pretty mild. Take a look for yourself at this excerpt:
I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am to be done with high school. It has been an overwhelming year. For some reason the teachers think that it’s cool for school to consume their student’s lives. You know what though, it’s okay. You just got to prioritize, and realize that school doesn’t always come first. Also, we all know that MHA has serious issues. Yeah, for the most part the teachers and administration are condascending, arrogant, judgemental, plain rude, and inconsistent in their treatment of students. But, hey, we all have our flaws.
Clearly she was having a bad day, or even a bad semester, but expulsion? Hardly seems like the right thing to do here on the part of Mars Hill Academy. They’re calling themselves a “Christian” school. Well how about a little forgiveness then?
Take a look at the entire posting. Think Mars Hill was in the wrong? Tell them.

This is very bad news. Freedom of speech is fundamental.
a school does not have to obey freedom of speech. en loco parentis, the same set of laws that make the school take responsability for the stuent, allows it to censor the student any way they deem fit, just as your parents can.
Wow, the spelling and grammar she uses aren’t indicative of the school providing even basic education, either. Pathetic.
Just goes to show the dangers of blogging inside social networks. Just blog anonymously! Or use a pseudonym!
Yes, but in the public school system, this lady would not have even gotten a reprimand.
Mars Hill School is basically run by fascist Christians, who probably voted for Der Fuhrer Bush.
sageb1, I couldn’t have said it better myself! I too am a victim of a fascist Christian school and sadly, they had the same attitude that this girl described in her article.
