Mondale-Ferraro Phone Ad from 1984

If you’ve spent any time on YouTube the past couple of days, surely you’ve seen the parodies to the Hillary Clinton “Who do you want to answer the phone at 3 am” television ad.

Sorry to break it to all the Hillary fans - it wasn’t very original. Take a look at what the Mondale-Ferraro campaign did back in 1984, when the topic of the day was Reagan’s Star Wars initiative:

This is too funny, how it plays on people’s fears of technology. Remember, this is 1984 - how many people had computers at home? Not too many. If twisted correctly, the computer could be made to be evil, acting on its own accord.

A vote for Reagan is a vote for the machines. Draw the line at the heavens!

This one is my favorite of all the 3 am spoofs - Bill’s locked out of the White House with a bunch of girls.

Not for nothing, but can you believe the $#!% that made for passable political messages back in the 1980s? Man, how naive were we? Well, I guess my kids will be saying this about me in 20 or 25 years when they’re looking back on the ads from this election cycle.

Hello, Hell? Yeah, we’ve got that handbasket. It’s on the way down to you right now…

I think you have to look back and see what was running opposite to this commercial. It was Reagan’s “Morning In America” series. They were great. No wonder he won over Mondale in a landslide. Not to mention we weren’t ready for a female VP. And we’re certainly not ready for a female president now, either.

Morning In America commercial on YouTube.

We are still not ready for a female president such as Hilary - she’d be great as a senator for another dozen years - or a Christian Arab, which Obama is.

He’s also make a great senator too.

I have no comment in the pair of Republicans, other than to suggest America find better candidates to replace the present GOP aka “bunch of thieves”.
