It’s like that Bill Murray movie, Groundhog Day, you wake up and it’s the same thing over and over again. Didn’t we go through this last Christmas? Hard-to-find Wiis, lines outside of stores, huge markups on Craigslist and Ebay, dogs and cats living together… you get the picture. Sorry, couldn’t resist a second Bill Murray reference.
Anyhow, it looks like merchants are stooping to new lows again - forcing customers who want one of the coveted game boxes to buy it as part of an overpriced bundle. The tech blog Ars Technica has a great write up on this, and we’re trying to find a store doing this, or an unlucky person victimized by the practice.
Have any Wii horror stories for us? awful@awfulmarketing.com

Yes! Last year at Toys R’ Us - the only way you could get a Wii at the one near me was to buy it as part of an overpriced bundle. Cheap console and controller covers, expensive SD card, and the kicker - extended warranty. I complained up and down, but they wouldn’t give in. I finally bought the whole bloated package, and then after X-mas I returned the other parts at a store in another town - they did it with no hassle, but the overall experience still soured me on Toys R’ Us.
Circuit City was doing this online, and then when you tried to complete the sale, it said the item was no longer available. I don’t know if they did it in the stores like that too or not. I’m trying to get one off Craigslist, but I know that’s a cat in a bag…
