Looks like Best Buy has gotten into the holiday spirit a little earlier than normal this year. According to this account about an incident at a store in New Jersey, they’ve been practicing a pretty ridiculous scheme to capitalize on a second season of Wii fever.
A Consumerist reader said: “One of their salespeople came strolling from a back door holding a Nintendo Wii over his head, and started walking the aisles announcing that it was their last unit. I followed, wondering both how quickly would it get snatched up and how quickly could I decide if I wanted to buy it. It took a few minutes for a couple to come rushing up to claim it, exclaiming how happy their kids were going to be.”
This astute reader stuck around a few more minutes and guess what - another “last” Wii appeared from the back room. Apparently there’s no Wii shortage in New Jersey this year… Boo to Best Buy!

Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.. maybe the deliveries are made by a 15-year old on a bicycle who can only carry one at a time..
I’d have stuck around later until next rotation and shouted out “WAIT I THOUGHT YOU JUST SOLD THE LAST ONE? THAT’S WHAT YOU TOLD ALL OF US AN HOUR AGO! HOW MANY DO YOU REALLY HAVE BACK THERE?”
